Du soleil, que ça existe explores how the body forms, records and creates what we consider reality. The text-based work focuses on longing, distance and language, examining the breadth of both language and landscape – bringing space for discussion and examining landscapes as bodies.
The images in the works are sometimes obscured or illuminated by layers of light, and in places only details are revealed through the flickering light of the film. The alternation of light and darkness resembles the movement of the sea and brings watery, sensual layers to the film. The images do not seem to be part of the traditional film narrative, but rather appear as moving paintings or photographs.
The atmosphere of the work is influenced by Marguerite Duras’s The Disease of Death (Finnish: 1986), in which the author describes how the nighttime seascape seen from a window eventually becomes a central part of her work.
