Annu Aalto: Time As River (Sokyusha 2019)

In the photobook “Time as River”, Japanese photographer Annu Aalto collects her photographs taken during countless trips to Helsinki over the past nine years. Rather than a travel journal, Aalto’s images collate to form a comprehensive—if subjective—portrait of the Finnish capital from the perspective of an intimately acquainted outsider.

“There are things that can only be seen over time. There will come a day when I can no longer return to this city as it will not be my final resting place. Until then, I will go back, time after time, to be an observer of this city of suspended existence.”

− from Annu Aalto’s afterword
